01/17/2020 – MLG Five Fact Friday

Everybody, Victor Medina, with Medina Law Group and we’re back with another Five Fact Friday. I’m actually coming to you from the Medina Law Group Educational Resource Center where we’re going to be holding the first meeting of the Pennington Business and Professional Association of the year 2020, actually, this year, I became president of that organization. So, if you are a local business, somewhere in and around Mercer Country, Hopewell Valley, and you would like to connect with other businesses, then you should join the Pennington Business and Professional Association. In fact, one of the missions that I’ve got for this year, is to meet with other local businesses to expand the reach of this organization. So, we’re hosting our first meeting here, at the Medina Law Group Educational Resource Center where we will be holding a meeting once every month showcasing other businesses around. And so if you would like your business to be showcased as well, we should talk. You should reach out and I would love the opportunity to learn more about your business and how you can contribute to the other businesses in the local area and help you connect with them. This is also going to be the site of our Secure Act in-person presentations and we have two of those coming up if you’re interested in attending. The first one’s going to be January 22nd, in around lunch time, and the other one’s also gonna be Monday, the 27th, in around lunch time. We’re gonna be serving light refreshments. We do have a few spaces available for that, so, if you’re interested in attending, you should register because space is limited. We’re only going to have about 15 to 20 people that we can fit in here because we want a little bit more of an intimate presentation dealing with these topics. And if you’re wondering whether or not you should attend, well here’s a really simple litmus test. If you’ve got an IRA and you’re planning on leaving any part of it behind to the next generation, you should attend because the new Secure Act Laws affect you and your prior planning. It’s unlikely that you have a plan that faithfully takes into consideration the new laws and so we would like to help you learn what you need to do with your planning in order to be able to take the necessary steps to plan around this new Secure Act. Again, if you’re interested in attending, we’re holding two of those. They’re going to be on Wednesday, January 22nd, and Monday, January 27th, right here at the Medina Law Group Educational Resource Center in Pennington, New Jersey. Now, onto the five links for this week. The first link has to do with whether or not visiting museums and being involved in the arts helps lengthen your life expectancy. You know, I’m a singer, and one of the things that I like to do is sing in a local acapella group. So that’s my connection with the arts. But you might like things like going to the museum. If you do that, does that lengthen your life? And that first link is going to help explore that a little bit more. The second link is a revisit to the 1960s Space Race. You know, we put the Space Exploration Program on the shelf for a little bit, but it has restarted anew and there are a number of different countries that are working together to explore space and make the next steps, and this link will help you learn a little bit more about that. The third link, usually something that is on my home screen, is actually something dealing with the advent of robots and how robots can help seniors accomplish their tasks. So a hat tip to Paul Ewell of Synergy for posting this, but I thought it was a really interesting link for the rest of my audience because there are different robots out available out there that might help you do your medication management or help you accomplish simple tasks. Now, the Secure Act deals with something called the Required Minimum Distributions, and the next link helps explain what those are. So if you’ve ever heard about RMDs and you’d like to know what they are or how they affect you, what the new laws are on there, it’ll give you a small taste of some of the topics that we’ll be exploring in our in-person presentation on the 22nd and the 27th. But the link here will describe what RMDs are and what the new law says about how you’re supposed to take them, Including some of the risks if you don’t take them so we want to explore that as well. And finally, we want to go with a link that talks about why people are prolonging retirement. And it’s not for the reason that you think. You know, most people believe that the reason why people postpone retirement has to do with money. Well, it actually has to do with some other things besides money, like their involvement with family and how to fill the void of them not working. And it’s a big topic because you know, a lot of people are defined by what it is that they do and if it’s not something that they are so latched onto, they know that when that part of it’s gone, how are they going to fill that void. So the last link will deal with that. So those are the five links for this week. I hope you have a fantastic week. And as a reminder, two things for you off of this special. First, if you are a local business and you’d like to get involved with the Pennington Business and Professional Association, I’d like to speak to you as the president of that organization for the next year. And second, if you want to learn more about the Secure Act, and how the new laws change your IRA and how you leave it behind for the next generation, then you should register for one of our in-person seminars which we’ll be holding on January 22nd and January 27th in around lunch time, linked below to register. That’s it for this week, have a fantastic week and we’ll catch you in a couple of weeks. Bye bye.
